Bernie Meaney hailed from Lissycasey and was killed in an accident while bringing turf home from the bog with his brother on a Saturday morning in Oct. 1993. Bernie was in his early 40's and at the time of the accident his wife was expecting a child who was born the following Christmas.

I think that Bernie competed in Dublin Marathon on a number of occasions and a had pb of around 2:40
