Nenagh Track

Athenry AC's juvenile athletes invaded Nenagh at the weekend for the first leg of the National Juvenile Indoor Track & Field Championships and competed to their usual high standards. Pride of place goes to Claire Rockall who captured the gold medal in the U18 Girls 1500m in a time of 4:53.77. Claire had a full 4 seconds to spare ahead of Eritrean born Tekea Gebrezgi of Celtic AC who was crowned national junior champion in this event only last week. Congratulations to Claire from all in Athenry AC.

Katelyn Duane was awarded 4th place in the U17 girls 60m despite finishing in the same time as the bronze medallist. Like Paul Hession, the 200m is her favoured event and she will be looking to medal in that distance in 3 weeks time.

Marie Touhy finished 4th in the U13 girls 600m with a time of 1:51.41, only narrowly missing out on a medal. Hannah Kindregan placed 8th in U14 girls Shot Put with a throw of 8.60m. Conor Caulfield finished 11th in the U16 boys Long Jump with a leap of 4.49m, although observers on the day suggest that his jump was mis-measured and, in fact, he jumped 5.49m which would have been good enough for 5th place on the day despite being short of his best.

Strong performances also came from Gary Sweeney in the U17 boys Long Jump, Conor Kindregan in U17 boys shot putt and Emma Grady in the U12 60m. Congrats to all our athlets and best of luck in the 2nd weekend of these championships on April 14th & 15th.
