The big day is over, and there are some very happy marathoners parting the night away in Dublin.

Well done to you all - it was a hell of a lot easier spinning around on the bike shouting encouragement than doing any running.

Well done to the rest of the Galway contingent, big crowds from GCH and Craughwell, and a few Tuam, Loughrea, CRH singlets thrown in for good measure.

There are the results I have - let me know in the comments who I've missed.

Well done everybody. Have to congratulate Peadar on completing his 30th Dublin Marathon - what an inspiration!

Fantastic run by Brutes and commiserations to Owen on missing the 3:00:00 barrier by only 7 seconds.

It nearly killed me not to be there...some fantastic performances above, and all well earned on the roads around Athenry and Galway.

What a club!

Firstly apologies for leaving an Athenry man on the ground. Sorry Adrian! Secondly Alan you were a god send. I had nothing left on the last 2 miles, you were a great supported. Thanks to Elaine and Valerie. I heard your screams. Its so important to have the support out there. If I'm not running next year I'll be there to return the favour. Well done Athenry and to all the West of Ireland runners, we were there in numbers!

Great running everyone - well done. Very good times - Brutes you have Paul Mc to thank for "kicking" you out of that speed training session on Saturday.

Brutes has only himself to thank for all the miles he's logged on the way to such a great time. Brian - you're welcome to give me a kicking any time you want :-)

The 'Lazarus' -
For rising from a complete collapse - literally- at 26 miles, to get up and walk, then jog and run past the finish, goes to Adrian Fitzmaurice.

The 'Yelena Isinbayeva'-
For taking another 20 seconds off a PB, goes to Frank Burke.

The 'Maurice Clarke' -
For being agonisingly close to a sub-3, yet still rightly satisfied with a cracking time, goes to Owen Curran.

The 'Heroin Addict' -
for proving that running is more addictive than any drug, by going all the way from fit-4-life [when it wasn't even called fit-4-life!] , to completing her 1st marathon with a smile all the way, goes to Maeve Noone.

Guys and gals, what a brilliant set of results, some blood and sweat went into those, before and during the run. Can hardly believe we had so many under 4 hours. Owen is a 3-hour man in my book, I won't begrudge him seven seconds. I'm inspired to actually train for my next spin in a marathon! Thanks to all the cheerers, the number from Galway cheering was truly awe-inspiring, what a great way to lift an individual to a team sport.

Martin Keane is showing off his lovely legs on the first page of taday`s Irish Daily Star marathon supplement!!!
Well done everyone and recover well!! I had a blast trying to scream at ye all.... I managed to get a few photos in between the jumping and shouting!!!!

Yes by almost 7 minutes, delighted. :-) And congratulations to all, especially those I saw on the course: Eimer who closed out the last 3 miles at a cracking pace (no chance of catching her after a brief glimpse at 23m), Deirdre who ran a solid negative split after we met coming up to half-way, and Frank and Adrian who I reluctantly passed on the final stretch, well done lads super times! And of course Alan and Valerie (+ any others that I didn't spot/hear) for the shouts/encouragement. =)

Thanks Valerie yes I know I've lovely legs, Its my one regret Im not female and Id be going around every day in a mini skirt !!but Val as you know yourself nice shapely legs dont make you run any faster Martin

I was literally passed by 1000 people in the last three miles yesterday but still ducked in under four again. Just think what I could do if I actually trained and ran the distance properly.

So many good performances yesterday, just from within the ranks of AAC itself, but I think pride of place should go to Martin Keane who took a whole 20 minutes off last year's time to duck in under 4:30. An inspiration to all other mid-to-back packers of what is possible even when your best days are, well, perhaps, a distant memory. Saying that, The ever-present, Peadar Nugent, wasn't that far behind Martin. Thirty and not quite out yet?

Well done to all of you - great showing. A number of pics are up on 'racepix365' now. Just type in bib numbers or indeed 'Athenry' in the bib no. search box. Loads there as well in the main Dub Marathon section that haven't been tagged yet.
Well done again to all of you.

well done you guys, like Mick it nearly killed me not to be there.

Ed egan well done to you...that is great going.

James; next year we will have the roads around Killtullagh worn out with the miles.

To everyone else a big congratulations...some of my family were out supporting on the route and said the 'West' contingent were the strongest in both colour and smiles.
Enjoy every minute of your break...get out for a jog today if you have not done one already...believe me it really does help(although starting and stopping is difficult!!)..if you are still coming backwards down the stairs and holding every chair before you sit down 2-3 miles slow jog ought to help you out.

Well well done... :-)

Just to add my congrats to all Athenry Runenrs - Once again I wasn't running, but was cheering every Athenry Vest that went through the Mile 15 Water Station, where we were dishing out the water and the gels. It's great to be involved, but so much better to be taking part.

Well done to all on Monday. Some great times/achievements all round.
Thanks Jane Ann for the kind words and for putting my body back together ealier in the year. Managed 3hrs58mins Longford marathon a few weeks back but body gave up on me on Monday around mile 14-15.
How some Athenry AC members do multi marathons and ultra marathons is beyond me. Nothing but admiration for them
Time to rest but spring Marathon already calling.

To those who I was fortunate to run alongside, thank you for your support and wisdom. I am still trying to find the words to express what participation in Monday's Marathon meant and means to me - will have to settle for AMAZING right now!

Its a pity photographers would'nt say 'big smile now' before taking pic's otherwise maybe take them early in the race and not in the closing stages!!Martin
