The weather just about held, and there was a great club turnout once again for the annual Streets of Galway 8km race. Results are only available in PDF format (copy attached in finish, not chip order with thanks to Galway City Harriers) so I don't have a full breakdown of the individual club performances.

Brian O'Connor and Brian Bruton once again led the club home in 27:02 and 27:40 respectively; great top 30 finishes in a field of nearly 2000 runners. Mick Rice was next, with a strong run to take the M45 title in 28:54; followed closely by Mark Breen in 29:10, Darragh McShane in 29:23 and Owen Curran in 29:31 to complete the Athenry sub-30 club. Frank Burke showed little sign of his Ironman only six days previous, knocking out 32:57 to stay ahead of his wife (if she didn't have flu she might have run him down) and other Fit4Life leaders VERY close on his heels...

Deirdre Quinn smashed her own PB, with ever improving performances this year - the first Athenry AC woman home in 33:22 (chip time 33:01). Sinéad Brody, a recent transfer from Craughwell, but now running in her home town colours was second Athenry AC woman home in 34:35, Sinéad Foran was next in 35:01 - her recent return to training paying good dividends. Miriam Wall cruised home in 35:19, minding herself for the impending IM70.3 in a few weeks! Martin Keane was second in the M65 category in a super time of 39:38. Official results/ prize categories are to follow.

Well done to all of the huge Athenry AC crew who turned out in club colours for the night.
