The fifth annual Boston Scientific 5k took place on Wednesday evening in Maree with a record field of 284 (mostly) smiling finishers.  The organisers would like to thank all the people who took part in the race and who helped out in a myriad of ways.  All proceeds will go to the Boston Scientific Charity of the Year – Ability West.

A bunch of three were inseparable from gun-to-tape and only 2.5 seconds separated TJ McHugh, Ian Egan and Billy King in a terrific sprint finish to the line.  TJ’s winning time of 16:35 earned him first prize on the night.

Mayo AC were to the fore in the Ladies prizes too, where Catherine Conway claimed first prize in 18:34, followed closely by Nichola O'Ceallaigh in 18:50 and Regina Casey in 20:02.

Athenry AC turned out in numbers as always.  With 21 finishers they were the biggest club present on the night, with 19 of our friends from GCH and 9 Craughwell AC finishers.  Ruthann Sheahan was the first Athenry AC lady past the post in 20:04, claiming 1st prize in the F35 category.  Hot on her heels was Sinead Foran (20:06) winning 2nd prize in the same category.  Ray Somers was first Athenry AC man past the post in 17:50.

Athenry AC’s Clara Burke (of the Frank and Maeve stable) made a welcome return to racing after completing her Leaving Certificate and claimed 1st prize in the Female Junior category.  Well done Clara.

There was an error in the results published.  Apologies to Pat Sherry who finished in tenth position and was inadvertently left out. Pat was fourth home in the M40 category in a time of 17:33.
