Clare River Harriers will be hosting their annual 10k road race this Saturday the 25th of August. This race also doubles as the County Galway 10k Championships. Athenry men's teams claimed silver medals in this championship in 2005 and 2006 and we’d love to go one better this year. Brian O’Connor also claimed an individual county bronze medal at this race last year and is perhaps in the form to repeat or improve upon that performance this year. We’ll have our work cut out obviously, as there will be strong representative teams not only from the host club but also from the GCH, Loughrea and Craughwell clubs. To our great regret Athenry AC has never entered a women’s team into this race and so we’d love to be able to do so this year, so if any of our women members are reading this – your club needs you :-)

The Claregalway course is one of the best in the west. It’s a fast loop with very little in the way of traffic or hills and a perfect venue to run a quick time. We’ve heard it said that ‘if you can’t run it in Claregalway, then you can’t run it’, and that seems about right.

The action get’s underway at 6:00pm sharp and so you should get there nice and early to facilitate registration.
