Clarenbridge Charity 10K Run/ Walk, November 25th 2012

Last Sunday was one of the colder days of Winter, however such conditions turned out to be perfect for what was to be the fourth annual Clarenbridge Charity 10K Run/ Walk. A record number of more than 300 participants found their way to Kilcornan in Clarenbridge to help raise much needed funds for the Irish Pilgrimage Trust, Lourdes Fund.

The race was hotly contested with the overall winning time of 33:17 taking first place by Steve McKeigue of Ferbane, Co. Offaly.  Aoghan McDonnell, West Limerick came close in second place with a time of 33:34. The Female Senior category saw Catherine Conway of Mayo AC take first place with a fast time of 36:03, with second place going to Helen Corbett of Galway City Harriers.  Mike Cunningham of Bilboa AC and Loretta Duggan of St. Mary’s took first place in the male and female Veteran categories.

We, the committee, are hugely grateful to all who took part in the race and to all the local community members who helped make this race possible. We would also like to thank our sponsors; Pat and Geraldine Brennan of ‘Snap Printing’ Galway, Topaz Energy Ireland, Amphibian King Oranmore, Kilcornan and Kilcuan staff and the Carlton Hotel Ice Factor. A special thanks also to Bernie Kelly of Galway City Harriers who has helped this race since its beginning in 2009.

We hope that all who took part enjoyed the day and again a big thank you for helping the I.H.P.T Lourdes fund. We look forward to seeing you all back next year for number 5!
