Results from the Clifden 10km run last weekend. This race is supported by Iain Shaw, as it has a special cause to raise money for the lifeboats in Clifden. He promises faithfully that he's going to run in it next year!

The annual Clifden Lifeboat 10k race took place on Sunday 11th September. The severe weather warnings did little to dampen the enthusiasm of participants who were rewarded with the rain clearing up prior to the race and the sun even making an appearance for a while.

Out of 110 people who registered, 93 finished the course which is deemed by many seasoned runners as one of the hardest in the country. Despite having competition from all over Ireland as well as Boston, Dubai and the UK,Galway fared well on the day. The first man across the line was a County Galway man, Chris Mc Grath, in 38.08 mins, while the first woman was local woman, Emer King from Roundstone, in 45.29 minutes.

There was intense competition between the teams and in the end, the Upstairs Downstairs team came in 3rd, Lowry's team were 2nd and Sean Nee's team consisting of local men Seamus Nee, Alan Keogh, Damien Joyce and Sean Nee coming in first. A second year in a row for Sean Nee. These were soon followed by the 1st Run/walker, Marie Dickenson, and the first walker Ann Flaherty.

While it is fast becoming a popular event for local people, it also has a number of regular seasoned runners from all over Ireland and afar who return every year, including amongst others, the first U50 woman, Annette Keane, as well as Marie Doyle and Michael O Sullivan who came 2nd in their age group.

All funds raised from the race go to the Clifden Lifeboat and organisers would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped, participated, sponsored, gave a prize or came out to support the participants, and helped make it a success. As well as all those who sent a text or email afterwards thanking us for a great day out. Hope you all come back again next year...in better weather!

Here are some great pictures by Iain from the day:
