The Connacht Schools T&F Championships were held in glorious sunshine in Galway RSC, Dangan this past Wednesday, 14th May. Congratulations to Mary Barrett and all involved in the Connacht Schools organisation for putting on a superb days athletic activity.

There was a high quality of performance all round with some exceptional results in the field events where several age-old records were broken.

In the Senior Boy's hammer competition Gerard Kelly, representing St. Geralds Castlebar, put in a massive performance with a 57.91 Championship Best Performance.

In the Senior Girls 100m Sharon Kilduff of St. Louis Kiltimagh equalled the existing record with 12.0 hand time. She followed this with a comfortable win in the 200m clocking 25.2.

In the Intermediate Boys discus Eanna O'Cathain from Carraroe CS put in an outstanding 45.14m to win by over 20 metres and make a long standing record his own. He collected gold in the javelin and shot for good measure.

In the Intermediate Girls High Jump Cathriona Farrell of Athenry VS bettered the record she held jointly with Claire McNamara to post 1.70m, bettering the old mark by 1cm.

Louisa Carroll from Westport had a superb win in the Intermediate Girls hammer beating the record, and the existing record-holder Shauna Monaghan, in the process with an outstanding 28.55m CBP.
