It's that time of the year again and with the last of the summer's road races, thoughts turn to cross country running and the indoor races to be run during the autumn and winter. Many of the dates and venues have now been set for these events and are given below as a single list. When I have a chance I'll also put them into the events section of this site, perhaps later this week.
For senior runners ther's an exciting look to the programme with a return to Loughrea after a long absence of the County Galway Cross Country Championships. The races will be held at the Dartfield Horse Museum and Park on the outskirts of the town and promises to be one of the biggest county championships in years. Building on the success of last year's well received event in Tuam all the adult races will be held at the same venue on the same day, with senior, intermediate, novice and junior races being held concurrently. The masters categories have been expanded this year to include O/40, O/50 and O/60 divisions. Galway Juvenile U11-U19 races will take place on the same day. Facilities at the venue are absolutely superb for athlete and spectator alike and it is hoped to hold the Connaught Senior and Junior Cross Country Championships at the same venue in the new year although this has yet to be finally confirmed.
