Congratulations to Darragh McShane of Athenry AC who finished 1st in the first “Jog in the Bog” Super 8 race winning in a time of 4hr and 2 min. A great 10k run to start in a range of terrain from road, trail and bog gave Darragh a good lead into the first cycle of 17.5km to Abbeyknockmoy. This was followed by the first of two hill runs starting with a 2km run in Knockroe. From there it was a 23km cycle into a stiff headwind to Castlehacket for another 3.75km hill run. A 5.5km cycle to Caherlistrane lead up to the kayak section of 0.7km, building to the final leg of the race which consisted of a 24km cycle back to Clooninagh to finish. It was a good win for Darragh considering he had a fall a week earlier on the bike while competing in the “Hell of West”.

Credit must also be extended to the organisers who took on the challenge of running the event in the bog. The evening ended with a Bogmans Ball which certainly allowed all competitors to take on any lost fluid during the gruelling day. While there where some hiccups in relation to stewarding the overall consensus is where do we sign-up for next year.

Well Done Darragh…….
