Brilliant weather greeted the organisers and starters of today's 1st annual East Galway AC/Abbeyknockmoy Hurling Club 4M road race run around a 4M circuit in the area.

Vincent Conway put on a great show for the 114 participants, with 50+ kiddies kicking things off just before 2PM over an out-and-back 1KM course.  The young winner covered the course in a nifty 3:32-ish.  Hopefully all these very young participants will go on to represent the home club with distinction for many years to come and will remember their first road race with much fondness forever.

The main event started 500 metres up the road from the community centre attached to the local national school and hurling pitch with a Gardai outrider proceeding the runners around this rural setting.

First back in 23:04 was Derek King, Declan Ryan, Michael Keating and John Flattery (Craughwell AC).  Jane Ann Meehan [nee Healy] (Athenry AC) was next home and first woman in 25:04.  Thelma McMahon (Loughrea AC) and Kathleen Reilly were next women home a few minutes later.

Congratulations to both clubs on a tightly organised event with all winners receiving very nice crystal prizes.  Al finishers received medals and hi-vis vets.
