Welcome to the 5th running of the Martin Egan Memorial race. Martin Egan was born on the 23rd of September 1920 outside the village of Shanaglish in County Galway. In 1944, Martin won 5 All Ireland Championship Medals over different distances and various venues around Ireland. But 1946 is the year when Martin Egan became a legend in Irish athletics. At Dundalk in 0n 4th August 1946, Martin smashed a 56 year record for the 4 mile Track and Field Championship, recording an Irish record winning time of 19 minutes 38.5 seconds. On the morning of this event Martin walked over 20 miles to get the train to Dundalk! In 1948 Martin was selected to represent Ireland in the London Olympics.





The race starts and finishes at the Beagh Community Centre, it runs through the hamlet of Shanaglish, passing by Martin's life-long home in Cregboy along the way. This race was formally the Beagh 10KM.

The Race HQ is at the Beagh Community Centre. Registration will begin at 12pm. There is ample parking at the community centre. Please arrive at the Race HQ NO later than 20 minutes before the race as the junction at the Ennis Road will be closed after this.

Refreshments will be served in the community centre after the race.
