The Galway 5km series concluded in Galway City last night in Dangan amidst smiles and sunshine. There was another huge turnout of runners and walkers who took advantage of the beautiful weather to once more test themselves over 5km. It was a treat for many to be back on the softer surfaces of the Dangan Sportsgrounds after the roads in Athenry, Tuam, Loughrea, Craughwell and Claregalway.

As this was the concluding race to the series there were t-shirts to be handed out to the dedicated few that had managed to take part in five or more of the races in the series. There were also spot prizes galore at the finish line and in Kelehan's afterwards where some snacks were provided for the hungry hordes.

Great credit has to go to Galway City Harriers on the night for the immaculate race organisation on the night and we can expect a provisional result shortly I'm sure. Many thanks to all who made this year's series such a resounding success. Let's hope we're all around and fit to do it all again next year.

I wish to say thanks to all volunteers, and race directors for running such a great series, which bring me back to run and enjoying it.

Thanks to all the participants who also motivate me, and the great Craic they provide in the last 5 weeks....

It was my first time taking part in the 5km series. It was great fun and I enjoyed all the races. Thanks to everyone who organised it all.

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to also say thanks for the 5km series, great craic each night. so well done to all clubs involved.

But i have to admit i was disappointed when i arrived at 7.25 on Tuesday to get my t-shirt, to be told there was no large or extra large t-shirts left??

Am i wrong in thinking when we signed up online we were asked to specify our t-shirt size??

Judging by the size of some of lads behind me in the line for t-shirts, im sure im not the only disappointed entrant.

I ordered the shirts based on the proportions indicated by the entries. Unfortunately not everyone specified their size when they entered and I've also no way of telling whether people, for instance, asked for a medium and then took a large on the evening. We ran out of large sizes just around the time you say you arrived. If you, or anyone else who is dissapointed, gets in touch by email at [email protected], I'll reorder the correct size for you.

No tee-shirt for me 'cos I only managed to run four of the six races, but I'm not sure my tee-shirt drawer(s) can take any more! Better than any shirt was the fantastic four nights out I had in great company and generally in excellent sunshine. Thanks to everybody who helped to put on such a tremendous series, it does you good to be part of such positive experiences.
