The forthcoming Community Games Cross Country competition is taking place this year on the 2nd of March in the New Venue of the Palace Grounds in Tuam at 2 o clock. This will we hope add a feeling of newness to the event and we look forward to the participation of each area in this year’s event. Please note that the fee for entry to this competition this year is €2 per athlete. Entries to be sent to Rita Mannion before the Friday 15th February.

Like other years each area committee is requested to make the event’s venue and times known to all eligible participants in their area. The usual panel sheets are available and I wish to make it known to all areas that they do NOT need to have a full compliment of 6 to enter children in the cross country competition. Likewise each area should note that there is NO limit on the number of people that they can have competing on the day as long as each competitor is eligible to run in their age group. If you need to do so please copy the panel sheets and submit any additional competitors’ names on those.

Each area Secretary is responsible for making sure that all entries are in their correct age group and also for the collection of a copy of participant’s birth cert, which must be available on the day of competition. In the Under 12 and 14 age groups the first 6 home on the day will form the panel to go to Mosney and each of the 6 will get a medal on the day of the Galway competition. In the Under 13 age group the first 5 home qualify to compete in the National finals in Mosney and therefore each of the 5 will receive a medal at county level.

Please make sure that all competitors know that should they qualify, they MUST remain after the competition to collect their medals and to fill out the appropriate panel sheets for competing in the National event. They will then be given 5 days to present a passport sized photo and the properly signed parental consent forms along with a €30 fee to the County committee.
