This weekend is a special weekend in the Irish athletics calendar. One of the most important athletic fixtures of the year 'kicks off' in Dublin on Bank Holiday Monday afternoon. A mini-bus full of Athenry AC athletes will be amongst those travelling to take part in the event and they will be led by the daring duo of Maeve Noone and Maria Hehir. The Athenry AC contingent will only be one of many that will travel from the Galway area as many Galway athletics clubs, Meet and Train Groups and community groups will make their way towards Dublin for this special day.

This race has established credentials as a competitive event with Sonia O'Sullivan, Catherina McKiernan and Marie Davenport counted amongst the previous winners. In fairness though, for many people this race is not exclusively about running their fastest possible 10k and more to do with a celebration of running and a love of life. Many participants also raise funds for good causes out of their involvement with the race.

Everyone at Athenry AC wants to send their best wishes in the first instance to our Athenry AC athletes in this race and of course to all the other women who will take part next Monday.

Run well, have fun and make sure you write us a report afterwards.
