A small group comprised of some of the best veteran athletes in the West of Ireland travel to Germany this week to compete in the European Veteran’s Athletics Championships which are being held in Regensburg, Germany from the next Thursday the 17th until Sunday the 20th. Amongst the group are two Athenry AC members Philip Magnier and Martin Keane. To the best of our knowledge this will be the first time that Athenry AC colours will be on display at this prestigious championships. Galway athletics' impressario TJ Beatty of Loughrea AC, who was the driving force behind the western delegation, also travels as does another stalwart of the Galway road racing scene Andy Talbot of Clare River Harriers. We're told that members of the 'Western Crew' will take part in both the 10km road race on Thursday and the half-marathon on Sunday.
