The very first running of the Fields of Athenry 1Km Juvenile Fun Run took place in advance of the Senior 10Km road race yesterday the 26th of December. There were almost one hundred young athletes taking part and they were led home by Linda Porter of Craughwell Athletics Club. There was a great atmosphere at this fun event with all age groups and Standards taking part together on the same course at the same time.

Athenry AC and Ireland spint star Paul Hession was on hand at the finishing line to present medals to each and every participant and to pose for photos with the young stars of the future. The juvenile race was organised by the coaches and parents from the Juvenile Section of the Athenry Athletics Club and should anyone want to find out more about the club, it's activities or training sessions they can contact Sean Kendrigan at (087)6486048.

Congratulations to all involved on a great race and a special thanks to Paul Hession for taking time out from a busy training period to be present.

Folks,

thanks for a great event. Sickness meant I could not take part in the 10 but the next generation featured in the 1k and thoroughly enjoyed it. Having Paul present the medals was excellent but to one-and all who gave up their Stephens Day to don a yellow bib many many thanks.

Just when you thought I couldn't use one of these, here I am. Well done to everyone on what was by all accounts a great Turkey 10k. I have been a non-runner for the most of the last few months (some would say always) due to health, family etc. However, its Connemara time so I have to give it a go to try for 6 in a row. Ran 7 last Sunday and my feet went numb. Never happened before so any ideas. (NO WEIGHT COMMENTS PLEASE). I tried a Polar with foot pod and it was way off in distance as Garmin was on other wrist. Does heart monitor training work? I need all the help I can get so any input would be greatly appreciated. Have a great 2008 in running and all else.

Paul Keane.
