The Athenry AC men's team did well on a day where there was plenty of distraction via a long wet windy last marathon training run around Ryehill to divert tired legs.

Darragh McShane led a team over 8000m which included Mick Rice, Mark Breen, Ray Somers, Frank Burke and Alan Burke - and! - in a special invite-only celebrity appearance - James Lundon and Philip Magnier.

The team placed a very credible third, given some tough conditions and the distractions of marathon training, behind Craughwell and Galway City Harriers.

Mick Rice continued his good form to pick up a closely fought bronze medal in the masters category ahead of David Quinn from Loughrea.
