Official Results of 2007 Fields of Athenry 10k

Start Picture

Here (at last!) are the Official Race results.

We had an unbelievable 617 finishers on St. Stephen's Day. To put this in context we had 69 finishers at the inaugural race in 2002 and 171, 254, 351 and 470 finishers in subsequent years. We're still very much growing!

Congratulations to each and every participant who picked up a hat and passed under the 800 year old finish line.

Both male and female Team prizes were claimed by our friends in Galway City Harriers, although the men's team result was hotly contested by Mayo AC.

2007 Fields of Athenry 10k Race Programme available for download

Please find attached a PDF copy of the Race Programme distributed
to all pre-entries on the day and to many who rocked up on the
morning itself. A very limited number of harcopies are still
available if you want your own piece of history :). Just let me
know...

A sincere thanks must go to Johnny O'Connor of Proactive on a
fantastic job laying the content out and for dealing in a patient
yet professional manner with the many-times-almost-unreasonable
editor.

Another Great Day in Athenry - Thornton and NiMhuircheartaigh Claim Titles

The members of Athenry AC who organise the Fields of Athenry Road Race don’t really have a chance to relax each Christmas until their 10k Race is over. Pulling together all of the elements that make this race happen is such a monumental task that each year we wonder if we can manage it within the resources we have at our disposal. Thankfully we seem to surprise ourselves each and every time.

Juvenile Stars Hit The Streets in Athenry

The very first running of the Fields of Athenry 1Km Juvenile Fun Run took place in advance of the Senior 10Km road race yesterday the 26th of December. There were almost one hundred young athletes taking part and they were led home by Linda Porter of Craughwell Athletics Club. There was a great atmosphere at this fun event with all age groups and Standards taking part together on the same course at the same time.

Thornton and Ni Mhuircheartaigh claim victory in Athenry

In almost perfect weather conditions, Gary Thornton and Orla Ni Mhuircheartaigh capped off successful years by taking victory at this year's Fields of Athenry 10km.

Almost 700 participants took to the roads and streets of Athenry, in the 6th running of the race.
For the first time, a juvenille fun run around the streets of Athenry was also held.
Full report to follow.
Some photos here, with many, many more to follow over the next week or so.

Online Entries Now Closed...!

Online entries are now closed for this year's Fields of Athenry 10k Road Race. We will still accept some entries on race morning but as the number of pre-registered participants is far in excess of what we had expected the number of late entries has to be limited so that we can keep the numbers participating at a safe and managable level. In order to allow us to process late entries as speedily as possible and to avoid dissapointment please attend race registration no later than 10:00am on the day of the race.
