Connemarathon.com gets a facelift

Preparations are being made for next year's Connemarathon, and one of the first things to get out of the way was a new website.

So we decided to raise the bar a little and make the website more informative, easier to navigate and generally clean up our act a little. The race website is very important to us as we are now almost 100% online in terms of information, entry and promotion.

From Loughrea To New York - A Report From The Big Apple

A Report from The New York City Marathon 2007
by TJ Beatty

In Nov.2006, while watching the New York City Marathon on television, I decided that I would be there in 2007. The reason for this decision was that I wanted to do something to mark my promotion from the ranks of the O-55’s to the next grade in the life of a veteran runner.

So, on Nov. 4th last I joined almost 40,000 others in the assembly area at Fort Wadsworth, Staten Island. With 3 hours to go to the start at 10:10am, various rituals had to be undertaken:

Awards On The Double For Paul Hession

Paul Hession's guests on the night

Paul Hession has collected two major sporting awards in the last few days. Last Saturday night in Dublin Paul was awarded ‘Track Athlete of The Year’ at the AAI’s National Athletics Awards. This was a tightly contested set of awards and even Paul’s mammoth achievements over the last twelve months did not guarantee him success at these awards. Such a situation is testament to the growing health of track and field athletics at national level during the last twelve months.

Late Autumn 5k at Dangan

Eight people tested the newly-laid running track at Dangan on Sunday 18th in an informal 5k race cum time trial. The track looked and felt good, much bouncier than the previous threadbare version, and less hard on the legs, according to Peter Delmer. Indeed the track is so new that the lane lines are not even drawn yet. (Note that PJ Coyle has asked people to use outside lanes when training to avoid wear and tear on those inside lanes.)

The Hollymount International Road Races took place today in cool autumn sunshine and a brisk breeze. There was the usual strong field in all three events and a particularly close finish in the women's race. It was a fine day for running which must have pleased local organisers and the athletes which took part in the youth's, ladies and men's races.

What's It Like to Walk A Marathon...?

Have you ever wondered what it might be like to walk a marathon?

After all, how hard could it be?

Very, very difficult actually as a work colleague of mine Susan and her 'significant other' Rob found out in Dublin this year. Susan ran this race last year in just over four hours and so she knows a thing or two about both running and this race.

If you're ever tempted to walk a marathon read this first.
