The AAI have just released the results for the National Marathon championship for men, which was run in conjunction with the Dublin city marathon.

Peader Nugent, who has toed the line for every single one of the Dublin city marathons, gets an extra medal to add to his collection, by picking up the silver medal in the M65 category.

Did you do the Loughrea 5 Miler this year?
Do you remember that beautiful autumn day bathed in brilliant sunshine when we were hosted by the good members in Loughrea AC? If the memories are starting to fade then you might just be in luck. Former runner turned photographer John O'Connor was on hand that day, as he has been so often before, to record the action and to preserve some of our memories. John is a hugely gifted photographer with an artist's eye for portraiture.
Back in the mists of the distant past, when we were a little younger, a lot more foolish and I still had some hair left, we used to organise a collective entry for Ballycotton. Unfortunately with the effects of the credit crunch and the increased numbers in the club, that sort of tomfoolery is no longer practical. If you're 'up' for the annual pilgrimage to Ballycotton it would be best if we organised entries individually or in small groups.

What a day!
Many, many miles had been run in training. All of the preparation, planning and plotting had been aimed towards this race. The whole weekend is an experience to savour. It builds on the journey eastwards and works its way through the ‘expo’ and the meal the night before, and then builds to its conclusion on Merrion Square around noon on Bank Holiday Monday. The energy and expectation that fills the air on marathon Monday morning lifts the city streets to a steady hum of excitement. You can taste the expectation. You can sense the anticipation.
Just trawling through the DCM results that have just been released, these are the names I remember were up there, some are missing so please feel free to add more in comments until we put up a full result listing.

Preview of The Hollymount 10k by Tom Hunt (Mayo AC)
The 43rd Annual Hollymount Road Races take place in Sunday November 9th. The 3k+ course is a familiar testing one, with a stiff uphill finish along the main street in the village. Three laps make up the men's 10k, while the women just do one in their 3k race.
Many famous names in Irish athletics have done battle here over the years and once again a top class field is expected from clubs around the province and further afield as well as the traditional coachload from Liverpool.
This weekend approximately twenty Athenry runners will make the trip to the capital to take part in the Dublin City Marathon which doubles as the AAI National Marathon Championships. For the last five or six years the club has sent strong contingents to this race and each time it has proven to be one of the most enjoyable running weekends of the year. Many, many training miles have been run over the past few months and this is perhaps the best prepared 'outfit' we've ever sent to the race. Hopefully there’ll be a reward for all the hard work that has been invested.
Almost unnoticed two Athenry AC runners have been running fine marathons on distant shores. Multiple-marathon-maniac Ray O'Connor chose Amsterdam as his venue to clip off yet another fine race over the classic distance while 'Lawrence' (aka Larry) Kelly joined Maire Teresa Beatty in Chicago and ran a fine race in difficult hot and humid conditions.
Congrats to both men...!
