Fields of Athenry 10k Prize Structure

Since its inception the fields of Athenry 10k Road Race has awarded specially engraved pieces of Galway Crystal to its winners. As the race has grown, and the number of participants in the event has grown, the number of crystal prizes we award has also increased. This year between the various categories we’ll be handing out forty-eight individual pieces of engraved Galway Crystal. The prizes that we award are of course in addition to the race souvenir that is provided to each entrant and the long-sleeved t-shirts that are on offer for the top fifty finishers.

Inis "Iron" Meáin is a tough, or tougher if you take in the dunes, 10k(ish) run around the island, which was held on Sunday for the fourth year running. The event is organized in aid of Coláiste Naoimh Eoin, the island's school. One of our newest Athenry AC members, Sinead Foran, took part again this year and wrote a race report for your reading pleasure.

As you read you may find that Sinead was not the only Athenry AC member to take part ...

Well done, Mick Rice

James and Alan admiring Mick's new watch

Athenry AC made a very special presentation to Mick Rice last night at our second organisational meeting for the upcoming Fields of Athenry 10KM on St. Stephen's Day: an engraved Glycine pocket watch.

The watch was ostensibly really to commemorate his participation in the recent IAU World Cup 100KM but also to thank him for his many hours of hard work on behalf of the club and all its members since our founding back in October 2002.
