Fundraising Run Walk in Kilchreest on Bank Holiday Monday

*** Slight Change in Starting Point - Instead of gathering at the carpark at the Village Inn in Kilchreest people should instead meet at Castledaly Church which is closeby - just to continue through the village of Kilchreest for another three miles 'til you see a church on left-hand side and that is Castledaly Church***.

Organiser Marguerite tell us that for runners it will be about a 10k run and the runners will know they have ran a good workout when they return to the Church.

Loughrea 5km - Four Hundred Take On The Challenge

Loughrea Officials - No Race Without Them

Provisional results from the Loughrea 5km now available at http://www.athleticsloughrea.com/node/123

Another week and another great 5km race to enjoy. As someone said to me in Loughrea last night, "We don't realise how 'spoilt' road runners are in Galway". It certainly was a great night for running in balmy is slightly windy conditions. The organisation was once again superb as the experienced and dedicated Loughrea volunteers and officials provided another opportunity for runners and walkers to test temselves over a challenging course.

Galway 5km Series - Who's Done What...?

Sorry about the picture...it's the best I could do on a Tuesday.

As we all know anyone who runs or walks five or more of the Galway 5km Series will qualify for the series souvenir shirt. Well, James Lundon has trawled through the various sets of results and has come up with a list that should reflect the current state of play as regards 'Who's done what?'

See if you can spot your name below and if you spot any inaccuracies perhaps you might let me know at mick@athenryac.com and I'll pass the messages on to James.

A Great Night in Claregalway - Results Attached

What a fantastic evening for a run in Claregalway. Another field in excess of 400 runners and walkers turned out in Claregalway last evening to enjoy the beautiful weather and take on the challenge of covering 5km as fast as they could manage. The Claregalway route had been tweaked slightly from previous years so the the race started and finished by the Claregalway Business Park. This provided a safer race and more space for organising the finish line. Andy Talbot of Clare River Harriers and his crack team of local volunteers had all of the important organisational details correct.

Gary Doherty to the Fore in Inishbofin

The Noble Gary Doherty

Word reaches us that Gary Doherty (almost) took Inishbofin by storm last Saturday when he finished in second place in the Croi Inishboffin Half Marathon. He reportedly completed the course in 1:33. I haven't been able to round up full results yet and so I don't yet know who beat our Gary to the line. Mr.Doherty is of course a previous winner of this event back in 2007 and if I have the technology working correctly you should be able to view his moment of glory from that year below.

Carramore hosted their annual 10k Road Race last Saturday evening. The rain held off for the duration and the race was a great success, with a large contingent of Galway athletes making the trip to this excellent race. Mayo AC had a great night out at the races filling the first three places in the senior men's results and Catherine Conway also claimed the women's senior title.
