Magic Mile 2 Result

Photos available here!
The weather held off for another good night of running at the second edition of the Magic Mile in Dangan last night.

Some great racing, with close battles in all 6 races, many athletes posting PBs in a distance with little opportunity to take it easy.

Many thanks to wall who took part, and to all who helped out on the night.

Paul Hession 3rd in London Grand Prix

Paul Hession today ran a seasons best 200m at the Aviva London Grand Prix in Crystal Palace finishing third in 20.40 in what was a high quality field. Paul was fast advancing on second place Wallace Spearmon at the line and another 10 metres could have reversed the result. All looks good for Paul in Berlin.

Athenry Athletes in Action All Over

This weekend saw Athenry AC athletes in action in various part of the country. Ultra running dynamo Valerie Glavin is deep into an ambitious training schedule for the Connemara 100 Mile race next month and in preparation for that event she completed three full marathon distance runs in five days last week.

Toureen 8KM Result and Report

On a day when most people in Mayo & Galway were going to or watching the Connacht Football Final the inaugral Tooreen 8k Fun Run/Walk took place. Just under 20 runners and walkers made their way to the start line wondering would they get back to the clubhouse before the next downpour! Shortly after 2pm the run got underway on a looped course making their way back to the Tooreen Hurling Clubhouse with the first runner Andrew Lynskey finishing just under 30minutes.

Athenry AC Handicap 10KM Result and Report

Burgers Galore

The Athenry AC Handicap 10KM AKA "Burger Run" was a huge success last Friday evening around our old 10KM course (start & finish at St. Mary's GAA ground in Carnaun).

A beautiful evening and 32 willing competitors. All had to give their estimated finish times beforehand and then run blind i.e. without watch, Garmin etc. No one was supposed to see others' times but that rule wasn't always strictly adhered to if one were to look very closely at the estimated times of some people around 44:30-45:00!

The results were variable; the winners a little less so.

Inaugural Ballindine Handicap 4 Mile Race

On the 12th July 2009 in the pretty Mayo village of Ballindine, 74 runners and walkers stepped up to the line for the first ever Handicap 4 Mile Race. Some of the most talented athletes in the west were among them. But it was not going to be the fastest who would win. Instead that person who could most accurately predict their finishing time, without the aid of a stopwatch, would get the prize.
