The Galway women's intermediate team came agonisingly close to bronze medals last weekend at the All Ireland Intermediate championships cross-country in Boyle Co. Roscommon. In the end the 'Galway girls' finished just three points behind the Dublin, Cork and Clare teams which filled the medal winning positions. The Galway team was led home by Kathryn Casserly of Castlegar AC in a superb 5th place overall.

Excellent Eimear Moves Up In Maree 8km & Provisional Results

Eimear accepting her prize in Maree

'Excellent' Eimear Butler improved by one place on her 2009 finishing position in taking the 2010 Maree 8km Road Race and Fun Run yesterday.  In 2009 she was sandwiched between two other Athenry athletes, Ann Carter and Miriam Wall, but managed to go one better this time around.  She was also quicker on this occasion improving on her 2009 time by 22 seconds on the newly certified Maree course.

Everyone at Athenry AC extends their warmest congratulations to Eimear on such a fine result.

Val is Club Person of Year

Valerie Glavin is our 2009 Club Person of the Year, winning out over Mick Rice and Maeve Noone.

Val is a worthy winner, having competed in several long-distance runs over the year, including the Connemara Ultra, the Paris, Belfast, and New York marathons, and the Connemara 100. She participated in 28 runs, a low total of runs compared to some years but, come on, how many 5k's are there in a 100-mile run? (Thirty three I make it, Mr A.B).

Pain on the outside of your knee when running?

Attention club athletes: Do you have Pain on the outside of your knee when running?

Have you been told you have Iliotibial Band Syndrome or “Runners knee”?

  • Are you over eighteen and would you like to take part in a study to help develop a better understanding of Iliotibial Band syndrome?
  • Are you interested in injury prevention? If so, I am looking for both injured and non-injured athletes to participate in a study examining the contributing factors in Iliotibial Band Syndrome.
