2010 DeCare Claremorris 5M Road Race Results
ATTACHED (and below) ARE RESULTS OF THE 9TH DECARE DENTAL/CLAREMORRIS 5 MILE HELD IN WINDY BUT DRY CONDITIONS ON SATURDAY EVENING LAST JUNE 26TH 2010.
A VERY COMPETITIVE RACE, IT WAS RACE NO 2 IN THE MAYOAC LEAGUE. NEXT UP WILL BE THE WESTARO MINI-MARATHON [ALSO KNOWN AS THE BALLA 10K] ON SATURDAY EVENING JULY 24TH. MORE DETAILS WILL BE ANNOUNCED IN THE COMING DAYS.
Well done to James Corbett who continues on the comeback trail as well as Aoife & Ray for lasting the new course.
No Stoppin' Dee
There's absolutely no stopping Deirdre Hassett these days. Her sojoun in the 'land of the free and the home of the brave' seems to be sitting extremely well with the girl. Her latest athletic exploits are detailed on the Galway Triathlon Club's website (we only own half her soul apparently) at http://www.galwaytriathlonclub.com/ under the heading "The Road To Liberty".
I think we'd better get her to come home before she 'shows up' an entire nation too badly.
Portumna Distance Races A Great Success
The inaugural Portumna Marathon, 50km & 100km races took place on last Saturday the 26th June on closed roads around the beautiful Portumna Forest Park. All three races were awarded AAI permits and were adjudged by all taking part to be a tremendous success. A number of Athenry AC members took part on the day or volunteered to help out as stewards, and of course the main organiser of the events was Seb Locteau also an Athenry AC member.
Eimear Eases To Another Win
A strong team of Athenry women took part in the Galway Women's Mini-Marathon road race at the weekend, and Eimear Butler led the entire field home in some style. The race took place around Salthill and by the time the runners made their way back to the finishing line Eimear was well clear of Castlegar AC's Kathryn Casserly and Helen Corbett in second and third places respectively. Miriam Wall was 7th overall and 3rd W35.
