Paul Hession - Ghent Photo Finish

Paul Hession got his 2008 season underway this weekend with a low key race against good quality opposition in Belgium. In his blog on www.RunIreland.com last week he said, "I have decided to do a few indoor races this year in a short one-week block. I start in Ghent on Sunday, followed by Tampere on Wednesday 27th and the Scottish Championships on March 1st. It will be a little different to last year when I did a much longer indoor season and went to the European Indoors Championships in Birmingham. This time I will not be as fully prepared to run the times that I ran last year but I hope to get a feel for competing again and it will help me get more in touch with my speed before I go into the next phase of my training. It normally takes me a few races to really get into the swing of things (last year I opened with 6.78 and finished with 6.61!) so it will be interesting to see how I run over such a short race period."

Paul's time in Ghent of 6.77 for 5th place in his heat wasn't good enough to make the meet final but we're sure he's not too concerned about that. This race is his very first stap back on the road that leads to Beijing in the summer and there's a lot more running to be done between now and then.

Good luck on Wednesday Paul.
