1. What running shoes do you train in?

Brookes Adrenaline GTS7, had to change from ASICS as kept getting

a blister in exactly the same place no matter how many pairs I

got through.

2. How many miles did you run last week?

17.

3. What's your favourite racing distance?

Although I have only run one of them, I really like the

challenges of the half marathon.

4. Where's you favourite place to train?

There's a 4 mile loop around Newcastle/Knockbrack that gets the

most attention these days.

5. What's your favourite race or event each

year?

Connemarathon.

6. What annoys you most at races?

Walkers who infiltrate the elite runners start.

7. What race, that you haven't yet run, would you most

like to take part in?

Midnight Sun marathon in Norway - it's on next year's calendar

already.

8. What was your best-ever running performance?

Not recently (20 years ago in fact), but 10.73 for 100m - was

very pleased with that

9. What was your worst-ever running performance?

I was going to say the Cork marathon this year, but I learnt so

much from it that I am reluctant to nominate it, I think this

years Craughwell 5K was bad, got a stitch before I got to the

first bridge and then it went downhill from there

10. What's the strangest thing that you've ever seen on a

training run?

A farmer deliberately blocking the road with his car so no one

could run past the farm.

11. Favourite piece of running gear?

My 'More Mile' fluorescent top - can be seen from Mars wearing

that, pretty essential on Athenry roads.

12. Who would you most enjoy beating in a sprint for the

line?

Paul Hession if that line was only 100m from the start line.

13. What was the best bit of training advice you were

ever given?

If you get thirsty, you are already dehydrated, drink before you

need to (and of course I never ever do)

14. In ten years time will you still be running?

Yup.

15. If for some reason you were told you could never run

again, how do you think you'd react?

Would take it badly at first, but as long as I was still

breathing I would get over it.

16. Have you ever been bitten by a dog while

running?

Nope, but there is a bastard terrier in Knockbrack that is living

on borrowed time.

17. Have you ever had to stop for an emergency 'Paula'

during a race?

Not yet, but I had a close call on a training run last year where

I had to stop and check my shorts hadn't been 'fouled'.

18. Favourite post-race food?

Cheesy Doritos and Coke.

19. Most embarrassing ever running-related

moment?

Taking the lead leg on a 4x100m in a county championship in

England and slipping and falling flat on my face when the gun

went off

20. The greatest Irish Athlete of all time

is/was?

Eamon Coughlan is the name that first comes to mind, but I feel

if this question is still being asked in 10 years time that Paul

Hession is going to be top of a lot of peoples list, I think

there are many great things to come from the boy.
