1. What running shoes do you train in?

Mizuno Wave Inspire, have tried a few other brands but keep coming back to Mizuno.

2. How many miles did you run last week?

35

3. What’s your favourite racing distance?

10mile or ½ marathon.

4. Where’s your favourite place to train?

Rinville & Maree, there’s a nice mix of hills, trail, country roads, seaside, (and usually a strong breeze) & as I’m there 5 days a week I try to make the most of it.

5. What’s your favourite event or race each year?

Ballycotton 10 mile, 2,500 people packed into a small East Cork village is some experience!! It’s an excellently organised race and the calibre of runners taking part is really high at the business end of things.

6. What annoys you most at races?

The queue for the ladies.

7. What race, that you haven’t yet run, would you most like to take part in?

Cork City Marathon, I’ve gone to watch it the last few years but have yet to take part.

8. What was your best-ever running performance?

Dublin City Marathon last year-3.24.41, I was aiming for a 3.25 and was delighted to hit my target on such a tough day for racing. I had a good run in the Cork to Cobh 15mile race a month before it, it was a warm day and I have never sweat so much during a race but I think it acclimatised me a bit for Dublin.

9. What was your worst-ever running performance?

Baseline indoor track & field event in Athlone 2013. I ran the 3000m as I wanted the experience of running on the track. There were only a few women taking part so they ran the male and female race together. I was last right from the start and thought I was going to get trampled on each time I was lapped. Which was constantly!! It was a scary experience.

10. What’s the strangest thing that you’ve ever seen on a training run?

During one run in West Cork I passed a farmer walking along with two massive pigs ahead of him, in Rinville Park I’ve seen a couple with a cat on a lead. Just get a dog!!

11. Favourite piece of running gear?

At the moment my running gloves, I suffer big time from cold hands while running.

12. Who would you most enjoy beating in a sprint for the line?

James Lundon (possible!!) or Ray Somers (unlikely!!)

13. What was the best bit of training advice you were ever given?

Stretch, foam roll and strengthen your core. Most runners concentrate too much on the running side of training

14. In ten years time will you still be running?

Yes if I follow the advice in Q13.

15. If for some reason you were told you could never run again, how do you think you’d react?

I wouldn’t be happy but hopefully I would find something else to do that’s as beneficial for body & mind rather than revert back to being a couch potato

16. Have you ever been bitten by a dog while running?

Unfortunately yes. Got bitten on the thigh by a sheep dog while out running at home in West Cork a few years ago. I got such a shock that I simply kept running and didn’t realise for about a mile that he’d torn a hole in my tights and drawn blood. It was well sore. I Googled Rabies when I got home!!

17. Have you ever had to stop for an emergency "Paula" during a race?

No thankfully.

18. Favourite post-race food?

Chips, especially Supermacs.

19. Most embarrassing ever running-related moment?

Nothing comes to mind apart from all the awful finishing line photos of me that are outthere.

20. The greatest Irish Athlete of all time is/was?

Sonia O’Sullivan.
