The Athenry AC annual general meeting, which took place on Friday 4th Feb, made special presentations to all four athletes who competed in the 24-hour race in Helsinki. All four - Val Glavin, Ruthann Sheehan, Mick Rice, Ray O'Connor - looked none the worse for wear a mere five days after their savage and exhilarating experience. (One even risked blackened toe nails in high heels and I can confirm that it was not Mick Rice).

Chairperson Maeve Noone added congratulations to Valerie on becoming the holder of the Irish Women's record for this time: 135 miles, a stupendous achievement. She also congratulated the backup team of 5, including partners George and John.

Ray O'Connor got another piece of booty after winning the Club Person of the Year competition with a great 102 points, 26 points more than the previous highest total.

In other news, Maeve Noone, Iain Shaw, and James Lundon gracefully agreed to fulfill their roles as chairperson, secretary, and treasurer for another year. Deirdre Hassett will become our PRO, a position she will do very well at, we're certain.
