The 3rd annual Ballindine 4 Mile Guess your time Race will take place on Saturday 28th May.

Registration costs €15 and will be taken from 4.30 pm in Ballindine Community Centre. The walk starts at 6.30 with the race starting at 7pm.

So can you tell how fast you run?

This is your chance to find out. This race is organised a little

differently to ‘normal races’. You must guess your time in advance [at registration on the day], and the winner is determined by the finishing time closest to their predicted time. The last can be first!

So this means that everyone, fast or slow, has an equal chance to win – but obviously, no watches, GPS devices, headphones are allowed.

The course itself is a 4 miler on quiet country roads.

Fully AAI certified by Mayo AC.  A great way to enjoy an active evening building community spirit.

The race is organised by popular local athlete Dave Huane of  Mayo AC. It was started as a fundraiser for Western Alzheimer’s for the Berlin Marathon 2008, and has become an annual event since. Dave has organised on line entries this year at www.runireland.com to help the race start on time.

The event is sponsored by Health West Community Pharmacy Ballindine which has

gratefully sponsored €300 prize money. This race gives everyone a chance to be a winner

by guessing their personal time for the race, without the help of a watch. This race is

open to all runners, regardless of speed. It is in aid of the local Western Alzheimer’s Centre

in Ballindine.

In an exclusive interview with Dave this week he mentioned that he would like to thank Mayo and Galway Athletic Clubs for all their help. Last year seen so many Galway people at the race that he had to check if Ballindine had moved across the border!!. He also thanked all the local businesses who donated spot prizes.

A fellow runner James Lundon gave this race a mention in this year’s Field’s of Athenry 10k programme, he mentions how he was overtaken by Anthony Devaney pushing his 7mth old

daughter Aoibhinn’s, this was her second year taking part in the event, as her mother Breege ran the race in 2009 when she was pregnant with Aoibhinn. We hope to see the 3 of them here again this year.

You can be assured of the best hospitality if you visit Ballindine and again this year refreshments will be served after the race in the community centre, before the final decision is made on the

winner of the race.

Any complaints or suggestions can be sent to the race director Dave Huane on the back of a

€50 note!!.
