The annual Tonabrucky Challenge took place on Saturday, 9 June. The race now in its second year aimed to raise money for the Rahoon-Newcastle Hurling Club and Pieta House.  The 6km course, which is Jones Counter Measured, and the event AAI Permitted, took in the town lands of Tonabrucky, Drum, Boleybeg, Mincloon and the famous Tonabrucky Hill.

The race saw over 200 competitors, from the seasoned runner to the first time racer taking part, started at 6pm, to the backdrop of the evening sunshine. Conditions were ideal with a slight westerly breeze. All competitors ran a fantastic race with Galway City Harrier’s Owen Byrne coming home in first place; A clubmate of Owen’s, Meabh Brannigan took the title for the first woman home.  Cormac O’Connor was the first Fit4Life runner home.

Thank you to everyone who took part and see you all again for the Tonabrucky Challenge 2013!
