Westaro/Balla 10k details announced
Plans have just been announced for the 18th annual Westaro
mini-marathon also known as the Balla 10k.
This year's event will be held on Saturday evening July 24th at 7
pm.
Race director Brendan Conwell [who established the race in the
early nineties] is pulling out all the stops to ensure this will
be the biggest event to date. He points out that this event
caters for all across the spectrum from walkers to joggers to
people who have taken up running through the various Fit4Life
groups to the leading club athletes from across the West of
Ireland and further afield.
Numerous organisations are taking part to raise funds for worthy
causes in the area. This year main sponsors are Castlebar-based
Westaro Hosing Ltd, supported by the Mayo News and C+C Cellular.
People can enter in advance on www.runireland.com. Also entries
will be taken on race day from 5pm. Entry fee is €15 all entrants
receive a goody bag and t-shirt.
A €2000 cash prize fund will ensure that places will be hotly
contested both at senior level and right through the age groups
for both men and women [see enclosed posters].
The Sheebeen 2km race for under 16 boys and girls will get the
evening's action underway at 6pm while Mayo AC will be holding a
fund-raising race night in the Rendevous Bar in Balla [just
across the road from the finish line] starting at 9pm on the same
evening a great way to finish off the day!
The Westaro/Balla 10k is race #3 in the Mayo AC/C+C Cellular
league 2010!
