You may have heard of the 32 Marathon Challenge that is currently taking place all over Ireland. Just a little information in relation to this good cause and how you can register to take part in the Galway part of the ½ or full marathon challenge.

Expert Ireland is proud sponsor of the Irish Autism Action national fundraiser the ‘32 Marathons Challenge.’ Gerry Duffy and Ken Whitehall both from Mullingar will complete 32 marathons, in 32 days in 32 counties to raise money for IAA. In each county the runners will be joined by 32 runners who will take part in the marathon or half marathon raising money for their local Autism centre, meaning the money raised locally will stay locally.

The Galway marathon will take place on Saturday, 17th July 2010 in Galway City. The route will start at The Carlton Hotel for a 13.1 mile loop around Galway city, along the sea-front Promenade and back to the hotel. 1 loop for a half-marathon, and 2 for a full marathon. The celebrities for this marathon will be Connacht Rugby Team. (http://www.32marathons.com/county_info.php#Galway)

A number of high profile celebrities have come on board to lend their support including Eamon Coughlan, Dara Ó Sé, Niall Breslin and Bernard Flynn, by acting as race starters in different counties. In fact, some celebrities like Norman Williamson and Niall Breslin have said they will join Gerry and Ken by running some miles with them along the way. Keith Duffy and Brian Kennedy have even agreed to run the entire 26.2 miles in Dublin, the second leg of this amazing challenge.
Gerry and Ken want to be joined by 32 different runners each day as they run around Ireland. The one exception is Dublin where they hope to be joined by 132 runners. For those that don't feel up to the full 26.2 miles, there'll be a half marathon option each day. A runner who signs up for a full marathon must raise €1,000 whereas a runner tackling the half marathon distance must raise €600.
