Athenry AC's Brian O'Connor had a wonderful win at the Cong 8km on Saturday in a zippy 28:38.

Here's a short report from Adrian McKiernan, one of the organisers:

"We had a wonderful day and a great turnout when you take into account the other events that were on at the weekend also ie. Rough Diamond (Connemara), Sky Road 8km (Clifden), Ladies Mini Marathon (Dublin) etc.

We had 141 participants on the day and the general reports from everyone was that they loved the course............very unique...........well marshalled and challenging towards the end.

The weather was fantastic so the run through woods was all the more beautiful !

We had a great spread afterwards and everyone stayed around for a bite to eat and a chat afterwards and of course the charity was delighted with its success.

First home for the Senior Men was Brian O'Connor in a time of 28.38 (First Prize - Dinner for 2 plus B & B in Lisloughrey Lodge Hotel) and first home for the Senior Ladies was Regina Casey of GCH in a time of 30.48 (First Prize - Dinner for 2 in Ashford Castle's Cullen's Cottage)"
