The Galway Track & Field Series for 2009 got underway on Thursday June 4th in Dangan with a couple of cloise fought races on the track and a high quality field in the shot putt. Full results attached.

Numbers were down on previous editions of this event which led to a more muted atmosphere and shorter programme than before, but there was still no shortage of excitement on the track.

Paul Fallon of GCH was the first across the finish line on the evening taking gold in the Masters Men 800m in 2:19. Caroline Clancy of Loughrea took the Ladies title in the same race clocking 2:25 for the 2 lap event.

Jack Fallon of GCH took the senior men's 800m title after winnig a 4 way tussle down the home straight. He crossed the line in 2:03 from Joe O'Donnell, Cormac McDonnell and Keith Fallon.

The 100m metre races also sawe tight finishes with Patrick O'Malley and Ronan Coyle, both GCH, inseperable at the line. They shered gold in a time of 11.4. Kevin mcGlone of Sligo won the masters race in a very impressive 13.5 while Leona McGuire of GCH claimed the ladioes title in 14.0.

In the field the reigning National senior Champion Sean Breathnach was elow his best but still managed one of the longest throws in the country this year with a 14.27 effort. Peter Healy was the top master in his first event in some time with an impressive 10.11 throw. Sarah Finnegan claimed the Ladies title with 7.10 while Patricia Monaghan took the Masters Gold in 5.21.

Day 2 of this event takes place this Thursday June 18th starting at 8pm. Scheduled events include 200m, 1500m, 4x400, Javelin & High Jump

Entries in advance by email to [email protected]. Pre-entry is strongly encouraged but entries will be accepted on the night. Entry is €5 per evening (covers all events) with payment on the night.

June 18th @ 8pm: Track: 200m, 1500m, 4x400 Field: Javelin, High Jump

June 25th @ 8pm: Track: 400m, 5000m, 4x100 Field: Discus
