The seventh running of the Kilconieron 5 Mile Charity Road Race takes place at noon on Sunday 22nd February 2015. This year the chosen charity is Athenry Cancer Care, a local based charity dedicated to helping patients of cancer and their families to cope when cancer strikes. Every cent raised goes directly to providing services to cancer patients in the immediate local area.

This race has become a permanent fixture in the Galway Road Running calendar over the years and for many it signals the start back to competitive running after the winter break. Many more use it as a first 5 miler – a step up from the 5k and another step towards the 10k or 10 milers later on in the season.

The day has also become an important fixture in the local walking scene with many local walking clubs using the course and its beautiful scenery as their group walk while at the same time giving to a local charity.

The start is at the Carrabane Community Hall (200 meters from the Gate Lodge), the Course then veers north towards on the Kiltullagh road towards Dunsandle, passing by the old Georgian mansion of Lord Dunsandle, once the largest land owner in Connacht with 37000 acres! The route then turns right onto St.Clearns, near the famous John Houston property, and then uphill to Carrabane and a finish outside the Gate Lodge.

Water will be available on half way and again at the end along with fruit. Refreshments and prize giving will be available in the Gate Lodge after the finish.

The Course is measured by Jones Counter and will be marked in miles. All runners will be chip timed and the race is permitted by Athletics Ireland. Entry is €15 for runners and €10 for walkers. People under-16 are welcome to take part when accompanied by an adult but will not receive a race number subject to permit. Entry is available online at activeglobal.com or on the day.
