No, not Michael Douglas and Karl Malden (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Streets_of_San_Francisco) but Conor Dolan and his adventures in the _Plate to Plate 5KM_ ran earlier this week.

Sixth in a time of 17:24.

He was every so slightly disappointed with the time but as he says in his short report below, it was his 9th hard race in 10 weeks.  Conor was coming off an excellent set of runs in the Galway 5KM series, (almost?) all of them sub-17!

Enjoy the rest of your holiday over there...

Conor's own words follow:

So unlike in the famous Galway 5km series, the San Fran 'Giant Race' 5k started at 8am!!! so it was up at 5:30 and off across town to AT&T park (the home of the SF Giants baseball team).  There was a choice of two races, (5k and half marathon) and unusually, the were both started together with runners wearing different coloured (or colored as they say here) numbers.  Total number of runners was about 5 or 6 thousand. They had a singer on hand to sing the star spangled banner and a Giants pitcher to start the Race.

I got a good start from the front and we went through 1 mile (no km markers!!) in 5:23(prob. too fast but the half marathon guys were flying!).  The temperature was already mid 20's and to make matters worse, we ran into the wind for mile 2 (its usually very windy around here). Mile two was 5:47, before we did a U-turn and headed back towards the stadium.  I was struggling now and really had nothing left in my legs! I tried to push on but i wasn't able to close the gap to the two guys ahead of me. Mile 3 went by in 5:41 before we turned through an arch into the stadium. the last 0.1 was on the dirt path around the playing field. Done!!

6th place in 17:24.

I was disappointed later to find out that a sub-17min time would have meant 2nd place (the winner ran 16:30).  I was mostly relieved however to be finished what was my 9th race in 10 weeks and looking forward to a break from running for a few weeks !!!

See http://sanfrancisco.giants.mlb.com/sf/giant_race/index.jsp for more details on the races themselves!
