The South Connaught Special Olympics Track & Field Day took place in Dangan on Wednesday last 21st May, and Athenry AC were there to lend a hand. With over 130 athletes competing in multiple events it was quite a day. The intermittent rain could in no way dampen the spirits of the runners, jumpers and throwers as they competed for glory all day long. To see the smiles on those faces as they variously wheeled, walked, meandered, jogged and sprinted along would do you good.

The event was completely put together and run on a volunteer basis and the organisation was excellent. The army, local teenagers, friends, parents and Athenry AC all contributed. We'll be back to help out again next year so if you didn't make it this time ...
