Wish Us Luck…!
Next Monday seventeen Athenry AC runners will take on the challenge of the Dublin City Marathon, a race that also doubles up as the National Marathon Championships of Ireland.
The seventeen brave souls in question are;
Alan Burke
Brian Bruton
Brian O'Connor
Frank Burke
James Lundon
Liam Mycroft
Michael Rooney
Mick Rice
Owen Curran
Peadar Nugent
Peter Delmer
Philip Magnier
Ray O'Connor
Robert Staunton
Briget Ann Walsh
Conor Dolan
Finbarr Connolly
It’s a team with mixed experience. Peadar Nugent has run all previous twenty-six editions of this particular race and at least two of our number taking on the distance for the very first time. Ray O’Connor has already completed marathons in Connemara, London, Vienna, Belfast, Edinburgh, Cork, Longford, Berlin and Amsterdam – all this year!!! Going into this race Ray has thirty-six marathon completions under his belt and is running better than he ever has before. It would have been a team of eighteen had the unfortunate Iain Shaw not had to withdraw at the last moment with an injury. You have our sympathies Iain, that’s hard luck. Briget Ann is our lone female representative – a brave woman!
Here’s hoping that the weather holds up and that we make it back to Merrion Square before Steve Staunton.
Good Luck
The ladies of Athenry Ac would like to wish the Athenry AC men runners and Briget Anne the best of Luck on Monday maybe ye might see a few of us there next year
My thoughts are with all of
My thoughts are with all of you, hope that you all have a good race. Look forward to the stories when you are back.
Iain
Best of luck to all.
Best of luck to all of you. Smart and steady for the first 20 and tough as coffin nails for the remainder. The rest of Athenry AC are with you every step of the way.
