The 4th annual Annaghdown Summer Solstice 10k (and kids 1K fun run) takes place on Monday June 21st.  The main event gets off at 7.30pm and is preceded by the kid’s fun run at 7pm. Of course, like last year, both runners & walkers are welcome.

The past three years events have proven to be hugely enjoyable, and the sun even shone last year, which made the now traditional post race dip in the Corrib all the more inviting.

As usual, the race starts at the Annaghdown National School and will finish at the Annaghdown Pier. The course is the same as before too, for any new comers that means that it is still the one loop and is relatively flat, relative to the hills of Connemara anyway! There are a few slight inclines but nothing too major. The route, including elevation can be viewed here: http://www.mapmyrun.com/run/ireland/annaghdown,-co.-galway/154127348574317488

To get to Annaghdown from Galway, take the Headford road out as far as Regan’s of Cloonboo, take a left and go about 3 miles. Once you see the church you can start to look for parking. The organisers this year are trying to keep the start area free of cars so your help in this will be much appreciated. There will be more than adequate parking available in the area, but if you can do so, please car pool to the event.

If you are coming from the Headford side of the county, take a right turn at the Annaghdown sign, take an immediate left and follow the road for 2 miles or so.

We have implemented a few changes this year that will hopefully add to the whole running experience. We are encouraging participants to pre register at http://www.runireland.com/events/4th-annual-annaghdown-summer-solstice-10k or by printing out the entry form and mailing it in. We will also have chip timing available for the first time which should speed up getting the results out to everyone, especially considering the fact that it is a Monday evening and most people won’t want to be hanging around too long.

Another first is the team prize that is on offer to the first men’s and women’s teams. With all the great inter-club battles that are going on every Tuesday in the 5k series, this should prove to be particularly interesting.

We are limiting the field to 300 people so get in early for this very popular event on the racing calendar. T-shirts available to the first 100 entrants.
