Athenry AC’s own Iron Man, Seb Locteau, successfully completed the Ironman UK Triathlon yesterday in cold and windy conditions. The event took place in Sherbourne, about two hours south of London.

Read this bit slowly … Seb’s event consisted of a 2.4 mile swim in open water, a 112 mile cycle, and a 26.2 mile marathon!

All this from a man recovering from a long term injury – hats off to the Frenchman now resident in the West of Ireland. Speaking from his bed yesterday evening, Seb was exhausted but happy. He thought the marathon at the end was the toughest he has ever run, constantly up and down, and rated it as tougher than the Connemara Marathon. Having targeted a sub 15hour finish time, Seb actually completed the distance in 13 hrs and 45 mins.
