Connemara 2006

Connemara 2006

Word has reached us from the Connemara Marathon Offices that entries for the 2007 version of their ever popular races will most likely close in the next couple of weeks. There has been a surge of entries over the Christmas and New Year period which make it more than likely that the entry limit of all three races will be reached well before the end of this month.

These races, the marathon, half-marathon and ultra marathon have become a ‘must-run’ for many people over the last few years but unfortunately the logistics of running an event in such a remote location mean that places must be limited. Race Director Ray O’Connor told me, “We’re anxious to make sure we cater for as many runners as possible and of course we know the race has come to mean quite a lot to many runners in the West. We’re also very conscious that we need to protect the unique atmosphere that has developed around the event over the years and of course respect the very special course that we get to run along each year.”

When entries close the Connemara Marathon organisers plan to make a small amount of places available to fund raisers. For more details on these places and other Connemara Marathon issues keep an eye on www.connemarathon.com.
