Paul Keane James Lundon
Congrats to Ray O'Connor and his merry band of helpers for
running another very successful series of races out in the wilds
of Connemara on Sunday. It was much more _Moab Red_ than _Dreary
Green_ there, as was going to be very clear from early morning
when the sun broke through the clouds well before 9:00 AM! The
day stayed dry, sunny and warm thereafter.
The club had no representatives in the Ultra but had five in the
Full and another three handfuls in the Half.
Brian Bruton was terribly unlucky not to break three, clocking
3:00:29 to place well within the top 10 of the Full. Eoin Curran
was very comfortable coming home in 3:14 and some change.
Injury-ravaged (as always!) James Lundon limped home under four,
in 3:57:25. The report is subject to a publishers' bidding war
at present. Paul Keane and Bridget-Anne Walsh completed the AC
representation, both finishing in the mid-fours.

Stressed? Moi?
Peter Delmer was first home in the half for Athenry AC in
1:22:47. He was even spied going in for a quick pint into the
pub just before the 6 mile marker. Was he that dehydrated or was
he in the pub for other reasons? Robert Staunton was next in
1:23:24, running in Athenry AC colours for the first time with
another new member, Larry Kelly, coming home soon afterwards in
1:26:12. Gary Doherty ran a PB to come home in 1:29:35, edging
out competitor #1, Johnny O'Connor, who, officially ran 1:30:03.
Philip Magnier ran another PB.
There were others, stretching the whole way down to Iain Shaw who
hacked home in a little under 2:30, his first half. He almost
beat James Lundon to the line but not quite.
Well done to all and to the other Athenry AC members who helped
make the event a huge success.

well done all, we had more
well done all, we had more athletes competing in this than in Tuam even, 19 I make it now. Well done to Ray and his team for an event which is unique: who ever saw so many coaches transporting so many runners to a race?
