The Galway 5Km Series visited Loughrea last evening for the penultimate race of the 2007 season. Once again over 230 runners and walkers took on the challenge of completing the course under the stewardship of the local club Loughrea AC. The local Loughrea AC membership deserve great credit for the fuss-free and efficient administration of the race. Registrations were handled with the minimum of fuss and race stewarding was flawless. The route which took runners out of town and returned to a point at the junction of Old Galway Road and Coscorrig Crescent Road in a large traffic-free triangle was warmly received.

Gerry Ryan of GCH made his debut in the series by coming home first in 14:58 over a minute clear of his nearest rival. Second home was Ruaidhri Geraghty of GCH and the next nearest challenger was ErnΓ³ Kis-Kiraly of host club Loughrea AC. Once again the weather was kind to both organisers, volunteers and runners alike and if we can one more nice evening for next week's event in Galway we'll have a clean sweep. Fingers crossed.

We'd hope to have a result as soon as possible and will of course post here once it becomes available.

Was great to run traffic free last night, from my own point of view think this has been the most enjoyable race. Loved the hill at 3K, it just kept going but was fun and a great run in to the finish. Hope this one stays on the calendar for next year.

Great credit to those who had the vision to dream up the 5k series. The buzz and feel-good factor in Loughrea last night can only be for the good of athletics in Galway. Any Tuesday night that over 240 people turn out for a run can only be described as amazing!!!!!!

We in Loughrea AC are delighted about the comment on the course.

Now on to Dangan next Tuesday!!!!!

Agree - this was a super course... after the slog uphill, the downhill finish was mighty fun.

Last Tuesday was a great way for me to get back into running. Really enjoyed the evening and in my own back yard too..
Great to see so many people turn out for it and glad to hear the positive reaction to the course..especially "Tulla Hill". Really needed that run..as I felt it later.. but on to Dangan next Tuesday looking to improve. Well done to the organisers of the series, the Loughrea AC and to all the runners.
