A belated brief summary of the Connacht Juvenile indoor championships, I do not have times or distances for each individual performance at the moment.

A total of 42 athletes from Athenry Athletic club recently competed in the Connacht Indoor finals in Nenagh. We also had a number a athletes who were unable to compete due to illness and injury, Katlyn and Thomas Duane, Kevin Madden and Aoife Tuohy would all have been medal contenders.

We won 10 Connacht titles, 1 silver and 7 bronze medals. The gold medals were won by Eilish Hynes under 12 Shot Putt, Joey Quinn under 12 Shot Putt, Hannah Kindregan under 15 Shot Putt, Hayleigh Sommers 800m under 14, Orlaigh McGrath 60m under 14, Maria Cooney 60m Hurdles under 14, Conor Caulfield 200m under 17, Conor Kindregan 60m under 17and Garry Sweeney 200m and Long Jump under 18.

The girls under 12 relay team won a silver medal ( Eilish Hynes, Roisin Holland, Grace Cahill, Rachel O Brien ).

Bronze medals were won by Emma Grady and Sorcha Murphy in the Shot Putt, Darragh Whyte and Cian Kelly in the 60m, Conor Caulfield in the Long Jump, the under 14 girls relay team (Marie Tuohy, Derbhla Fox, Hayleigh Sommers, Orlaigh McGrath and Maria Cooney) and the under 16 girls relay team (Clara Burke, Sorcha Murphy, Aoife Reilly, Lean Fahy and Sinead Tuohy).

All the above medal winners have qualified for the indoor All Ireland finals in April.

A depleted under 17 boys relay team finished second but were unluckily disqualified which is a pity as they had won the gold medal in the All Ireland finals last year.

Others to compete were Orlaigh Melia, Yvonne Carey, Ciara Fox, Emile Gavin, Melinda Earls, Katie Gallagher, Lorna Hannon, Shane Conway, Stephen Gilmore, Tara Murphy, Leticia Collins, Niamh Grady, Serena Hansberry, Ciara Fox, Louise Brennan, Stephen Callanan, Darren O Brien, Stephen Coleman, Nial Kenny, Darren Kelly, Arron Osbourne, Cathal Kelly, Mac Murphy, Sinead Tuohy and Laura Higgins.

Training continues on Tuesday and Thursday nights in Raheen 7.30pm new members are always welcome. There are over 40 children training on a regular basis and we have a number adults who attend these training sessions but extra help is always appreciated.

Our annual church gate collection is on Sunday 13th April your support is greatly appreciated as this is our main source of funding.
