Last Saturday morning we had a special guest at our regular weekly training run. Former Dublin and Belfast Marathon winner Lezan Kimutai was in town to run the Connemara Half Marathon the following day and he dropped along for a leisurely run around the town to put the final touches to his race preparation. As Lezan normally trains three times a day for a total of around sixteen miles this wasn't the toughest run he's ever undertaken but there were smiles all around as the members of our regular session, including many Predator Tri Club members, welcomed the famous Kenyan to Athenry.

The club had gifted Lezan an Athenry singlet, which without any prompting on our part he carried proudly to victory in Connemara the following day. Although a naturally shy and modest type Lezan was hugely impressed with the welcome he received in Athenry and he wanted to pass his thanks onto everyone he met during his brief stay in the West.

Come back soon Lezan.
