Athenry runners met with considerable success over the weekend at the Claregalway 10km, which doubles as the Galway 10km Championships over that distance. In the individual competitions both male and female Athenry AC runners made the frame. A back to form Brian O'Connor came home strongly in third place in the men's race (34:51), just eleven seconds ahead of club captain Brian Bruton(35:02) in 5th. Brian O'Connor's individual bronze is a fine reward for a period of dilligent training recently. Given the challenging course these were fast times and for two  Athenry singlets to be counted amongst the first five home was a great result. Conor Dolan and Darragh McShane completed the Athenry men's scoring quartet in 18th and 22nd places respectively. The men's team also claimed bronze medals in the Galway men's team championship.

On the women's front, it was great to see Eimear Butler back in action, posting a speedy 41:05. Eimer was the first Galway woman home and thus the gold-medal-winner in the Galway championships. Congratulations yet again on another sparkling championship performance in the maroon and white to Eimear from all of her club mates.

I've extracted the results that I can see for Athenry runners from the published results below, but I may have missed some. If I have please update this article by posting a comment below.

Well done again to all of our runners who took part. It was a great day for running, but then again, isn't almost every day a great day for running :-)
