One of the iconic images of the Connemarathon was taken that first year when two of the women competitors in the marathon had to contend with sheep crossing the road in front of them near the end.

There happened to be a camera person on hand to capture this surreal moment and the rest, as they say, is history.

Both women in this image were back on the Marathon start line on Sunday last, including the only remaining stalwart of the race - and Athenry AC (Senior)'s first women member - Bridget-Ann Walsh. Eileen Donoghue has done most of the marathons in Connemara in-between too but was injured for a small handful.

Sincere congratulations to both on finishing (mostly) in one piece on Sunday.  Neither will speak to me for then next 6 months for posting up this article but it had to be done.
